After you have designed your web page you can publish the page to the web. Take a look at it and see how it looks in the top browsers. They will be a little different. Check the links to be sure they are working properly. Look for design mistakes like over-lapping borders and colors that don't look just right. Make sure all the text is easy to see and read. See if the page is pleasing to the eye. Is it interesting? If you were seeing this page for the first time would you want to look further. Does it have 'credibility'? Visitors will need to trust what you have to say. Make sure your content is not too 'BUSY'. The page should look simple, pleasing and clean...not a jumbled mess that makes it hard to sift through information. Puzzles are fun but not when it comes to looking a your web page.
Make any changes you feel need changing and publish to see it on the net. Make important points bold or help them stand out in some way. Pull up your page and see where your eye goes first. I always like to have a featured article. This way your visitor will be encouraged in a subtle way to revisit your site to see the next featured article. Keep you content fresh by updating the pages often. Make sure all your information is current and correct.
If you are selling a product or service, coupon offers or discounts are important. Everyone loves a good deal and will be motivated to make a move to buy quicker if it means they will save some money. Its a win/win. You may get a little less money but you will probably make a sale that would otherwise be lost.
WHEN THE ROBOTS CRAWL YOUR PAGE:
What robots look for when they crawl your page for ranking purposes seems to change all the time. I can tell you they will look at your web page title. This is extremely important. To check how well you are doing with your title I would suggest you use the FREE service provided through
You can follow the link to Free Submit and look at FREE TOOLS and then Meta Tags Analyzer. When you are designing your web page you will see a place to type in the title and then the description of the web page. The description should include ONLY words that are actually found on the page and they should be the best 'keyword' choices. These are the words visitors will use when trying to find your web page in a search engine. The robot will not be happy if you put nice keywords in your description that are not found on your page. The robot will also not be happy if you have placed the SAME KEYWORD more than five times in your keyword list. The description and the keyword list must accurately reflect your page. When a visitor types in a keyword and is given your page as a possible choice for finding their wanted information, they must be able to find the information on the page where they land. This one is very important and very basic.
Another thing that the robot looks for are alternate text. There is a place on your design panel that lets you change the name using alternate text. This means if you place a pic on your page, for instance, you can change the alternate text for that picture so that when your mouse hovers over it, the alternate text or name will appear. This will count toward your keywords that the robot looks for on your page. If you have a box of text, give it an alternate name. Perhaps on your logo you can rename it to say, WELCOME!
One more thing that should be included somewhere on your web page is a place for your visitor to leave their name and email address. This can be with a guest book entry, or a request for more information or a place to give comments. These names and addresses are used for your marketing list. It is always good to ask visitors if they would like to be notified about any updates to the page. Also, it does not hurt to ask your visitor to pass along your web page to their friends. You spent a lot of time to build the page so it would be good to have lots of visitors. Leave a little not telling your visitor that their information will not be shared in any way and do not share it. HOMESTEAD offers a very simple method of creating a submit type form or even a survey if you prefer. It all works great! The best marketing list you can have is the one you build yourself.
Using the FREE TOOLS option on Free Submit you will get a ton of good information about the best options for your page. This is also a good place to submit your website for free. Now, it is time to continue on to the next step in creating your website on a shoe-string budget. Follow this link to: STEP #4 Creating Blogs With Affiliate Links.
